Hike on the Oude Buisse Heide

17 December @ 12:0016:00

On Saturday, December 17, the Stroom South will head out on the Oude Buisse Heide. This remote area is difficult to reach by public transport (a bus goes once an hour from Roosendaal station), but definitely worth the effort. Not only because of its natural beauty, but also because of its most famous resident: Henriette Roland Holst, poet, socialist and known to many of us as the writer of the Dutch version of the Internationale.

On the heath, we will follow the poetry route, which passes Henriette’s bathhouse and teahouse and her husband’s studio, among others. Among the imaginative old lanes, farmhouses and fens, we will read the poems that inspired the landscape, discover the guests who stayed in the area and learn about the eventful life of Henriette Roland Holst.

We will gather at 12:00 at Roosendaal station to travel together to Achtmaal. The timetable between Achtmaal and Roosendaal changes regularly, so keep an eye on the information on the Kameraadschappij website. On the open heath it will soon be cold and windy, so dress warmly, and don’t forget to bring a packed lunch. See you then!
